Prayer Reflection – April 5, 2024

Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

In view of God’s mercy, we offer our bodies as a living sacrifice.  What amazing language!

Our whole life offered to Jesus in worship.  Each moment, each thought, each word for His glory (see Colossians 3:15-17).  All because of His life at work in us from the first moment that we said yes to Him as our Saviour and Lord.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world.  As we pause with Jesus today, let’s ask Him this question: “Jesus, where in my life am I currently conforming to the pattern of this world?”  Psalm 139 comes to mind as a prayer, specifically the closing verses, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24).

Continuing in prayer, let’s sit with Jesus and ask Him to further renew our minds today as He continues His work of transforming us to be more and more like Him.  Let’s pray, “Father, help me today to be able to test and approve what Your will is – Your good, pleasing and perfect will.”

What is Jesus bringing to your mind today?  What is He causing to stand out to you today in His word?  I encourage you to pause there with Him.

Here is a song that has recently stood out to me and I wanted to share it with you today.  I invite to notice the heart of the lyrics to respond to the Lord in worship every day.  Anything that is simply going through the motions needs to be removed in Jesus’ name.  For as long as I can remember, my mom is someone who worships Jesus with her whole life.  Perhaps you can think of people in your life who have shown you what it looks like to follow Jesus (see 1 Corinthians 11:1).  As you listen to this song, perhaps take time to thank Jesus for those people as well as intercede for our church as a whole, asking Jesus to continue to grow us as a people set apart for His glory.

The Lord bless you!
