Exodus 20:8 (NIV)
8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.”
Mark 2:27-28 (NIV)
27 Then he [Jesus] said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
As a part of practicing Sabbath this past week, together with family, I enjoyed a long walk on a beautiful sunny morning.
As we went, I watched my 10 year old son ride his bike ahead of me as I pushed a stroller with our two youngest kiddos.
We meandered around a nearby pond and listened to the various birds and the melodies they sang.
We eventually reached a playground and my boys proceeded to climb and slide while I stayed with our youngest.
What does practicing Sabbath look like for you?
I am learning that it truly does take practice. It is something that we enter into with Jesus.
As I walked this past weekend, I prayed Psalm 23 at times and prayed for my family. I walked slowly. Slower than I typically walk. More of a stroll I guess which fit with pushing a stroller.
I looked at the trees and the fields and savoured the aroma of lilac blossoms in the air. I thanked God for the day and that time together with Him.
I invite you to talk with Jesus about Sabbath. A day of rest and worship.
Perhaps you already are in conversation with Him about it and Sabbath is a regular practice for you as a part of your weekly rhythm of rest and work.
What could it look like, in a fresh way, to enter into Sabbath this week? Enter into rest and worship.
The following song is a favourite of mine from back in the day. As you reflect on the lyrics, I invite you consider your journey with Jesus and the way that He is leading you today:
The Lord bless you!
Psalm 23
