Matthew 5:7 (NIV)
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Ephesians 2:4-5 (NIV)
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.
A friend recently shared a story of driving and being stopped by the police. My friend deserved to receive a ticket and would then have to pay a fine. Instead, the police officer decided not to issue a ticket.
How surprised and thankful do you think my friend was? Very surprised and very thankful.
This is an example of mercy. Deserving a consequence and then being spared that consequence.
As followers of Jesus, we daily get to remember the mercy that our heavenly Father has shown us and thank Him. In turn, we get to show others His mercy and compassion (see also Micah 6:8 and Romans 12:1-2).
I invite you to pause with Jesus and His word today. What is He causing to stand out to you from His word?
Do you need to experience His mercy in a fresh way today?
Can you imagine how different our community will be as we keep God’s mercy in view and respond by worshipping Him with our whole life?
May we join Jesus today in showing others His mercy. Let’s surprise people with His compassion.
Instead of judging others, let’s pray for open doors with those around us and ask Jesus to build bridges of trust.
May others experience the mercy and love of God through our lives in Christ today.
I wanted to share these songs with you today as we worship our Father and pray:
The Lord bless you!
Psalm 30
