"Sunday is for the Lord" — Roberto 'Robbie' (our new Italian friend)

Ever since we arrived, God has been displaying His beauty every morning with spectacular sunrises in San Fermo. Today marked our very first day off, and anticipation ran high for our action-packed Sunday. The morning began as rainy and cold, but it eventually turned into a scorching hot day with clear skies, leading to a few questionable fashion choices just to stay cool…
We kicked off the day at Raney's church, where we met some of her wonderful friends. Worshipping the Lord in Italian brought to mind Revelation 7:9: "After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb…" Praising the Lord truly transcends all language barriers. “Coincidentally” the lead pastor was on vacation which resulted in a guest, English-speaking pastor sharing his insightful sermon in both English and Italian.

During the service, Jamie gave an inspiring and heartfelt testimony that left us all feeling deeply blessed and proud.

Afterwards, we enjoyed a traditional potluck lunch served in true Italian fashion, ensuring no one went away hungry.

Following church, we made our way to Bergamo and rode the funicular up to the Upper City. There is a distinct magic soaking in the breathtaking panoramic views shaded by historic architecture. We explored the cobblestone streets as we spent the afternoon enjoying stracciatella ice cream and authentic pizza while hearing the lively hum of the streets and music coming straight from heaven. This city’s rich history and unique character truly deserve the utmost respect and attention and it’s a day that has been engraved in my mind and heart forever.

Our friend, Robbie was right; Sunday is for the Lord. Yet in Italy, every day has filled me with awe as the beauty of the land and the warmth of the people continually remind me of the Lord’s majesty.
