As summer approaches and recommendations regarding COVID-19 start to change, many of you have wondered when our doors will open again. We do not have an answer but we simply ask that you pray with us; pray that the Holy Spirit would guide us and give us wisdom in the weeks ahead. We certainly miss seeing each of you and look forward to the day the facility is open again. But for now, we encourage you to continue being the Church from home!

"The Church has never been closed, just the building." - Pastor Dan

We are receiving new information daily and are taking into consideration all guidelines provided. At this time we do not have information as to when we will be gathered together in the sanctuary again but are trying to be creative on how we can connect and meet safely. We hope to see you soon! Please stay posted to this page for more information in the coming days.

From AHS: COVID-19 Status

We have confirmed 319 new cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, bringing the provincial total to 3,270. Of the total cases, we suspect 313 cases may be the result of community transmission, 169 have been hospitalized and 46 have been in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Currently, there are 72 cases in hospital, with 18 in an ICU. 1,357 cases have now recovered.

4,336 tests were completed over the last 24 hours, bringing our total COVID-19 tests to 117,835 since the start of the pandemic.

We must report the sad news of two additional deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the provincial total to 67 lives lost in Alberta related to COVID-19. The two deaths mentioned yesterday in Brooks have now both been confirmed as cases of COVID-19. Only one of those cases is reflected in today’s data, due to the timing of the confirmation. The second case will be included in tomorrow’s information. We cannot disregard the terrible toll COVID-19 has taken on some families in our province. We extend our condolences to those who are grieving those losses today.

Unfortunately, the long incubation period of COVID-19 means we will continue to see new cases in the days ahead, as many exposures happened before these cases and outbreaks were identified. One infected person can continue to result in many new cases weeks into the future.

This also means we need to remember that we cannot gather in large groups in the coming weeks, as noted by Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Chief Medical Officer of Health, today. We have seen in Alberta that large gatherings can be super-spreader events, where one sick person can expose many others to the virus, spreading COVID-19 across households, communities and even large geographical distances.

While we are getting more and more anxious to resume some semblance of normal life, now is not the time to start relaxing health protocols, meeting with family and friends, attending large events, or moving throughout the province. It is just too easy to unknowingly spread the virus, which would result in us taking steps backward in managing this pandemic.

With federal and provincial mandates to stay home as much as possible (and to social distance when not possible) and to self-isolate when experiencing any signs of illness, the way we each live and work has changed dramatically. At CrossRoads, we are responding in these ways:

  • Our building is closed to the public, other than dropping off tithes and food; we have set limited access to staff and contractors in order to comply with government directives
  • We are looking at how we can continue ministry to the extent possible and to be fiscally responsible

Mandatory Isolation

I am concerned as well, which is why, as Premier Kenney has outlined, public health orders will now be enforced by law.

This step is essential to protect the health and safety of Albertans.

Alberta’s enforcement of Public Health Orders is in addition to the decision of the federal government to implement a mandatory 14-day quarantine, under the Quarantine Act, for travellers returning to Canada.

This step is serious, and it is necessary.

We must do everything possible to stop the spread of COVID-19, to support our health care workers, and to keep our family, friends, neighbours and vulnerable Albertans safe.

Mandatory Isolation information provided by the Government of Alberta and can be found here.

Here at CrossRoads Church we’re committed to gathering together to worship Jesus in large gatherings and we desire to be a welcoming place for any and all who come.

However, we care deeply about the whole person and in light of the COVID-19 virus situation we are taking responsible precautions to reduce risks and ensure the health and safety of everyone that visits our church.

We are actively monitoring the advisories from the Public Health Agency of Canada, the Government of Alberta and Alberta Health Services. Here are their website links if you’d like to do the same.
Alberta Health Services

We trust that God is sovereign and in control of all things. And while we need to be wise and discerning during this time we will not live in fear. Let’s be in constant prayer for the following areas:

  • For those immediately affected by the virus around the world and in our communities
  • For God’s peace and wisdom to be ever present
  • For wisdom and discernment for our government leaders, our church staff and ministry leaders
  • For opportunities for you to love your neighbours during this time

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
-- Philippians 4:6-7

Thank you for understanding and for your cooperation during these unprecedented times. We will keep you posted on any updates to services, events, ministry activities and how this situation could affect our church family. Please watch our website, social media channels and digital bulletins for any notifications.

God bless,
